It takes courage to seize opportunities, even when you do not yet know what the outcome will be. Turva’s insurance representatives, Linda Mäkinen and Tuula Hussey, know that a career that reflects who you are is built gradually and with the support of others. When you have people and organisations behind you that you can trust, even major decisions become easier to make. The same idea is at the heart of Turva’s operations: when everyday life is secure, it is easier to smile and live your life courageously in your own way.
The Support of Others Helps Us Move Forward
About three years ago, I made a big decision: I left my salaried job in the insurance industry and became an entrepreneur in the same field. I gained the freedom to shape my work in a way that suited me, but at the same time, the responsibility for my livelihood shifted onto my own shoulders. Still, you do not have to solve everything yourself. It is important to recognise situations where someone else's expertise can be helpful.
Through my networks, I have received advice, new perspectives, and support in difficult situations. When I have knowledgeable people around me and my company's insurance coverage is in order, I can focus on my own work and developing it.
To women building their careers, I would say: be curious, get to know people, and ask for help when you need it. For example, you do not have to figure out your company's insurance needs on your own. Instead, it is worth choosing a partner you can trust.
Do not wait for the moment when you feel completely ready. Few of us ever are, and we do not need to be. The most important thing is to dare to take the first step and see where it leads.

No One Succeeds Alone
The most significant decisions in my career have not been about promotions, but about leaving and changing direction. I have walked away from situations that no longer felt right for me, even when I did not yet know what would come next.
I used to think that networking meant collecting contacts. Now I believe that trust is what matters most. A good network works even when I am not there myself: someone remembers me, recommends me, or connects me with the right person. A network built on trust will take you further than simply having a large number of contacts.
The people who have been especially important throughout my career are those who recognised my strengths before I was able to identify them myself. Their encouragement has helped me see what I am capable of.
You do not need to know everything in advance. You can find your direction along the way when you dare to ask for help and accept it.
