Women in IT – a given at JNT, and we want to inspire more people to take a place in the tech industry

The IT industry has long been male-dominated – that’s no secret. But that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. At JNT, we want to help change the perception of who belongs in the world of technology. For us, it is a given that women have a natural place in IT, and we are proud to already have many skilled women in our teams.

“We want everyone, regardless of gender, to feel that they have a future in the IT industry. It’s about competence, curiosity, and willingness – not gender.”
– Maria Höglund, CEO of JNT

JNT (Jakobstadsnejdens Telefon Ab) is a telecom and IT company based in Ostrobothnia, with roots in Jakobstad. For private customers, we offer, among other things, fiber connections as well as internet, TV, telephony, and cybersecurity services. For businesses, we provide a wide range of ICT services, including fiber and internet solutions, IT support and maintenance, computers and accessories, Microsoft 365, server hosting, telephony and switchboard solutions, monitoring services, and tailored cybersecurity solutions.

Our consumer operations extend from Kokkola to Kristinestad, while our business services cover a much wider geographical area, with a presence in Jakobstad, Vaasa, Kokkola, Raahe, Oulu, and surrounding regions.

A rapidly growing industry – with flexibility and both local and global opportunities

The IT industry is not only important – it is also one of the fastest-growing sectors in Finland and globally. According to Statista, the Finnish IT services market is expected to reach approximately €9.41 billion in revenue by 2025, with an annual growth rate of 3.36% through 2030. At the same time, the Kasvuyrityspulssi report shows that the ICT sector in Finland is expected to grow by 7% in 2025, driven by digitalization, AI, and automation.

This growth does not only mean more jobs – it also opens up new ways of working. As digital tools and cloud-based solutions evolve, it is becoming increasingly common for IT specialists to work remotely, both within Finland and internationally. This allows for greater flexibility in shaping the workday and enables flexible hours, hybrid work models, and borderless collaboration.

For many, this is key to achieving a balance between work and personal life – and for companies like JNT, it is a natural part of a modern work culture.

PowerWomen at JNT – women in diverse roles

At JNT, PowerWomen come in many forms – from technical experts and project managers to strategic thinkers and inspiring leaders. It’s not about a specific role or title, but about having the courage to take space, drive change, and contribute with your unique expertise. Our PowerWomen are curious, solution-oriented, and bold – and they make a difference every day.

Women at JNT work in a wide range of roles – from technical support and fiber network planning to sales, IT security, customer solutions, finance, marketing, and business development. It is not uncommon for our female colleagues to lead key projects or be responsible for complex technical solutions.

And it doesn’t stop there – 40% of our management team and 40% of our board consist of women, something we are both proud of and inspired by. This shows that there is space for women at all levels of the company – from intern to decision-maker.

Qualities that make a difference

We believe in giving people the space to grow. We encourage initiative, self-leadership, and continuous development – regardless of gender. Many women possess qualities that are invaluable in IT – and that are sometimes overlooked in an industry that often focuses more on technology than people. Here are some examples:

  • Strong communication skills – the ability to explain complex technical solutions in an understandable way is a superpower

  • Empathy and attentiveness – essential in customer interactions and teamwork

  • Accuracy and structure – crucial in everything from coding to project management

  • Problem-solving ability – seeing the bigger picture and finding creative solutions

  • Collaboration skills – building strong teams and relationships, both internally and externally

When these qualities are given space, it leads not only to better IT solutions – but also to stronger and more inclusive workplaces where everyone can succeed.

You are needed – and you are welcome

We want to encourage more women to take the step into the IT industry. You don’t need to know everything from the start – what matters most is curiosity, a willingness to learn, and an interest in solving problems.

“We see it as a strength to have diverse perspectives in our teams. It makes us better – both as an employer and as a provider of IT solutions.”
– Maria Höglund

There is a wide range of courses and educational programs suited to different life situations and career stages. The opportunities are many: you can work locally, nationally, or remotely with assignments in other countries. This offers flexibility in both working hours and workplace – and the freedom to shape a working life that suits you.

Why we are part of VoimaNaiset

We chose to partner with VoimaNaiset because we share the same vision – to highlight women’s competence, create role models, and inspire more people to take space. For us, it is a way to demonstrate our commitment to equality, but also to learn more, network, and contribute to a more inclusive future in tech and business.

“Considering the male-dominated industry we operate in, it was a natural choice for JNT to join VoimaNaiset as a partner. We want to highlight that there is space for women in tech – and that the industry is ready for more. There may be some uncertainty about choosing a male-dominated path, but if you are interested in tech, don’t let that stop you from pursuing your dreams.”
– Zuzette Lövgren, Head of Marketing at JNT

The future is inclusive

At JNT, we work to create a work environment where everyone feels welcome, seen, and heard. We believe that diversity makes us stronger – and that equality is not a goal, but a given.

So to you who are considering a career in IT – just go for it. There is a place for you here, and we look forward to working together.
